Overview:
Evolve Global Solutions partnered with the Ministry of Education, Science and Training and the National Council for TVET in Nepal to improve the quality of vocational education and training (TVET) in the country. The project aimed to increase job opportunities for young people, with a focus on females, those with disabilities and learning difficulties, and ethical and green leadership. The project involved reviewing and strengthening quality assurance guidelines, designing new quality standards, training assessors and inspectors, and supporting TVET colleges to implement the standards.
Challenge:
The Nepalese TVET sector faced a significant challenge in ensuring the quality of education and training provided to young people. The lack of standardisation in quality assurance guidelines meant that there was no consistent approach to ensuring that TVET colleges were meeting the needs of learners and employers.
Solution:
Evolve Global Solutions provided technical assistance and training to support the improvement of quality in the Nepalese TVET sector. The project involved reviewing and strengthening quality assurance guidelines, designing new quality standards, training assessors and inspectors, and supporting TVET colleges to implement the standards. The quality standards were approved by the Government of Nepal, and training was completed for quality assessors and college inspectors. The project also involved monitoring and evaluation activities and advising on further implementation.
Results:
The project has had a positive impact on the Nepalese TVET sector, with the new quality standards being rolled out across the country. Colleges that have implemented the new standards and had successful assessment visits have been able to access infrastructure reform grants. Assessments have noted improvement in learner success and teaching approaches. The national reform programme is now being rolled out, with the aim of boosting the quality of TVET in Nepal and improving job opportunities for young people.
Key Learnings:
The project highlights the importance of standardisation in quality assurance guidelines and the benefits of collaboration between government agencies, training providers, and industry stakeholders. It also shows the impact that training and technical assistance can have in improving the quality of education and training provided by TVET colleges.
